Head of Agency, Status of Women
Meena Ballantyne was appointed Head of Agency for Status of Women Canada in May 2014.
Prior to this appointment, Ms. Ballantyne was Assistant Secretary to Cabinet for Social Development Policy at the Privy Council Office (PCO) from 2011 to 2014. The Social Development Policy Secretariat supports the Cabinet Committee on Social Affairs which considers policy issues related to health, justice, public safety, aboriginal issues, labour market and skills development, culture and immigration. Ms. Ballantyne also served as co-Champion for Blueprint 2020 at PCO, and Champion of the PCO Young Professionals Network (YPN).
Ms. Ballantyne spent much of her earlier career at Health Canada. She was most recently Assistant Deputy Minister of the Health Products and Food Branch at Health Canada from 2007 to 2011.
Ms. Ballantyne has extensive experience in policy development and program implementation through her past positions at Health Canada, the Privy Council Office (Priorities and Planning, Senior Personnel, Machinery of Government) and other federal departments, including Canadian Heritage and Fisheries and Oceans.
Ms. Ballantyne has a Master’s degree in Health Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Ottawa.
