Purpose: The goal of this 24-month project is to develop leadership capacities in violence prevention among girls and young women of the Newfoundland and Labrador Bay St. George Area. Girls and young women will participate in a youth-led needs assessment and a series of workshops on how to plan, develop, coordinate and deliver youth initiatives addressing violence issues within their own communities. Girls will also be mentored by community representatives and, in turn, become peer mentors to other youth. In the final stage of the project girls and young women will create youth-led projects and act as youth liaison on diverse community committees to address youth priority issues. The project evaluation results, workshops modules and tools will be shared with community partners across rural regions.
