Purpose: This 36-month project will work to increase the recruitment, retention and advancement of women in small, medium and large enterprises in software development, e-business solutions, and website development in the cities of Charlottetown and Summerside, PEI. In consultation with experts and employers, the organization will create a Women Information Technology Leaders group to support women’s professional development. Human resource practices will be addressed by collaborating with sector employers to conduct an industry “Women in IT Roundtable” in order to document and share promising practices with other IT employers. This project is part of the Women in Technology Projects initiative. The Women in Technology Projects aim to provide women the opportunity to contribute to, and advance in, the Canadian Digital Economy, where they remain under-represented. The projects will: address human resources practices, structures and measures in small, medium-sized and large enterprises; and, ensure that women have the necessary skills to become active participants in Canada’s current and emerging technology sectors. These projects will work in partnership with the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC). The ICTC will develop a common evaluation framework for all funded projects, produce a document outlining the overall results and best/promising practices; and disseminate key evaluation findings for the funded projects.
