Purpose: This 36-month project aims to increase opportunities for Aboriginal women in skilled trades and technical professions in Montreal, Quebec City, Val d'Or and Sept-Îles/Port-Cartier. The project will work with women and key stakeholders to identify needs and priorities for Aboriginal women, leading to the development of a labour market information and skilled trade employment profile for each region. The project will engage industries to develop and implement concrete actions to address systemic barriers to the recruitment, retention and advancement of Aboriginal women. Strategies will include toolkits to increase industries’ readiness to hire and support Aboriginal women, leading to reviewing their recruitment and retention policies to make them more open and flexible to potential and current Aboriginal women employees.
