Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Date: 2016-03-30
Value: $77,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This is a supplement for the following 24-month project which addressed institutional barriers and other factors that limit community efforts to address the issue of cyberviolence against young women and girls in Ottawa, Ontario. Service providers, youth organizations, academics, technology firms and social media platforms were engaged to improve local services, as well as transform digital spaces. Youth helped identify the issues of cyberviolence affecting young women and girls, expanded their understanding of these issues, and in partnership with stakeholders, helped carry out strategies to prevent or eliminate this form of gender-based violence in their community. Strategies leveraged existing community efforts to address violence against women and examined new methods for social media companies and users to prevent and eliminate cyberviolence online. This supplement will extend the project duration an additional 12 months to expand outreach efforts and disseminate findings to new sectors, including the social media/information technology sectors, as well as share and implement tools to address safety issues of online platforms. It will also support the review and improvement of its existing web portal and tools on cyberviolence.
