Vera, Atmospheric Science

I decided to do my PHD in science because it allows me to be creative, analytical and communicate with researchers from all over the world.

Heidi, Medicine

I chose medicine because it is an absolute privilege to learn both the art and science of medicine and then be able to apply this knowledge to help patients through some of the most venerable times of their lives.

Paulyn, Electrical engineering

I chose engineering because I wanted a career that challenges me and provides exciting opportunities. I also just wanted to build stuff and actually see it work.

International Women’s Day is a celebration of the significant progress we’ve made in advancing gender equality together so that all Canadians benefit from a more equal society.

In Canada and around the world, women and girls are shaping the future with their innovative ideas and ground-breaking discoveries.

Here in Canada, we’re implementing innovative approaches to advancing gender equality, because when women succeed, we all benefit.

Whether it’s gender budgeting legislation, proactive pay equity, investing in supports so that more women can pursue meaningful careers in STEM, business and the trades, our government is driven by the fact that when we invest in women, we grow the middle class and strengthen the economy for everyone.

That’s why this year, we are proudly celebrating all the women and women's organizations who are breaking barriers and doing things differently to help all of us Innovate for Change.

Our government is committed to doing politics differently so that we can get better results for women and girls, and achieve gender equality faster.

Join us in shining a light on the women and girls who are blazing a trail with the hashtag #InnovateForChange.

Collaboration is at the heart of innovation, so let’s work together to create more opportunities for women and girls.

Happy International Women’s Day!
