Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: BUREAU DE LA COMMUNAUTÉ HAÏTIENNE DE MONTRÉAL
Location: Montreal, Quebec
Date: 2006-09-22
Value: $30,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: The purpose of this project, proposed by this agency's women's committee, is to appropriately provide teenagers and their parents in disadvantaged areas of Montréal’s Haitian community with a better understanding of the process of gender equality. The agency will select a group of between 12 and 15 teenagers and their parents, particularly mothers, who will benefit from information meetings on intergenerational communication and prevention of hypersexualization and pregnancy among young people, two issues of increasing concern to the Haitian community. The participants, particularly the teenagers, will be responsible for spreading the information provided through the project to as many young people as possible, using various means available to them. These messages will be conveyed to the community through the ripple effect, for example to groups of friends and at neighbourhood hairdressing salons, churches, restaurants, and grocery stores frequented by young people, and will thus reach a significant segment of the community.
