Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Women in Resource Development Committee (WRDC)
Location: St.John's, Newfoundland
Date: 2009-01-13
Value: $200,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 18-month project will increase the knowledge and enhance the capacity of 335 women and girls interested in natural resource employment or careers in trades and technology. By partnering with employers, unions and educators, information sessions, networking opportunities and panel discussions will be offered to women and girls in ten locations across the province. Leadership seminars, as well as presentations about women in trades and technology careers will be given to partners (including the eight Women’s Centres across the province). A written resource with relevant information on careers associated with natural resources will be developed and available for women with low literacy skills in local libraries, women’s centres and community centres across the province. Follow-up meetings in five selected locations will assist 90 women participants in securing and completing apprenticeship positions with employers, thus enabling them to gain successful employment in natural resources, trades and technology.
