Purpose: | This 18 month project will build and expand on a previously funded project by the Womens Program; Women and Public Pensions: Supporting the Economic Security of Rural Women in their Senior Years, of which the applicant organization was a partner. This two-pronged project will bring 500 rural women (seniors and those aged 40-54) together in a series of workshops while collaborating with established networks of senior rural women and their organizations, as well as government departments and agencies working with seniors to expand awareness and knowledge of the present Canadian Pension System. By helping them understand the system with clear messages, and plan for their future, they will be able to achieve greater economic security in their senior years. In addition, the project will focus on helping senior rural women increase their awareness and knowledge of the Principles for Caregiving Policy from the Healthy Balance Research Program, which will assist them in developing strategies to minimize negative health, safety and economic impacts on both caregivers and care recipients. They will also participate in a provincial information/strategy session to develop a strategy for collaborative action to support womens safety and well-being in their aging years. |
