Purpose: | This 18-month project will prepare low-income women for training and securing careers in nontraditional trades and technologies. Womens Network PEI will pair 12 experienced mentors with 36 women receiving income assistance, and will involve 24 employers in finding creative solutions to overcome traditional barriers to womens participation. Participants will take part in a 14-week individualized pre-training college-readiness module (topics covering gender-based analysis, conflict resolution, safety training, portfolio development, numeracy and literacy). This project, based on the successful Women Unlimited project in Nova Scotia, will run as a complement to a pilot training program for moving low-income, low-skilled women into non-traditional trades. |
