Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards
|Recipient Name:||Antigonish Womens Resource Centre and Sexual Assault Services|
|Location:||Antigonish, Nova Scotia|
|Purpose:||This 24-month project will respond to the institutional barriers that limit the capacity of community service providers in the Aboriginal community of Paqtnkek Mi'kmaw Nation in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia to prevent and respond to sexual violence against women and girls. The project will build collaboration between service providers, governing bodies, elders, band council leaders, and a local university to identify promising practices and implement a culturally appropriate approach for strengthening and increasing access to services. Community stakeholders, women, girls, men and boys will be engaged in identifying the issues impacting women, as well as examining the role of men and boys. The project will build cultural competencies among non-Aboriginal service providers and establish a circle of collaboration for the coordination of services. Best practices will be disseminated to six Mi'kmaw communities across Nova Scotia.|
