Purpose: This 36-month project will work to improve the economic prosperity of young women by increasing their knowledge of career opportunities in the skilled trades and technical professions that have traditionally been male dominated. The needs of girls in two Montreal high schools, located in different socio-economic contexts, will be assessed. Strategic action plans will then be developed and implemented in the two schools to diversify career development practices and promote girls’ academic and occupational opportunities. Project results will then evaluated and shared with school boards and other schools to ensure that other girls benefit from educational and occupational guidance that is gender-specific and diversified.
