Purpose: This 36-month project will increase the diversity of women engaged in local government at the local and regional levels. At the local level, the project will work with elected officials in four municipalities across Canada to engage Aboriginal, visible minority, and immigrant women on issues such as decision-making processes and governance at the municipal level. At the regional level, elected officials will support and mentor under-represented women interested in entering into municipal politics. Project best practices, lessons learned and effective strategies will be shared through both virtual and face-to-face forums, as well as the production of a guidebook which will be widely shared through the organization’s membership.
