Purpose: This 36-month project will bring together the Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association and the Lac La Biche Canadian Native Friendship Centre Association to engage urban Indigenous women in twenty communities across Alberta on the issue of violence against Indigenous women and girls. The project will develop a culturally-appropriate model to prepare urban Indigenous women to play a leadership role in working in their communities to develop action plans to address systemic barriers to the effective prevention of violence against women and girls. The model will be tested with the Lac La Biche Canadian Native Friendship Centre Association and then introduced to other Friendship Centres across the province.
