Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Métis Nation of Ontario
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Date: 2017-03-06
Value: $332,780.00
Type: Contribution
Purpose: This 36-month project will seek to strengthen the leadership of Métis women in the Métis Nation of Ontario and advance the needs of Métis women and girls in the Métis Nation of Ontario’s governance structure, policies, and practices. A steering committee comprised of Métis women will apply a gender lens to the organization’s existing structures and policies and identify barriers (such as poverty, trauma, and loss of cultural identity) that prevent elected Métis women from exercising leadership in their community. Based on the input provided, the organization will develop and implement a culture-based gender framework and province-wide strategy to support Métis women in their respective leadership roles. The implementation process of the strategy will be documented and shared with other Indigenous organization looking to engage in a similar process.
