Purpose: This 36-month project will seek to prevent sexual violence against women and girls in the rural County of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The organization will work in collaboration with the communities of Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation, St. Francis Xavier University, and the Strait Regional School Board to assess and bring changes to policies and practices in order to better recognize and address sexual violence. An in-depth analysis of the policies impacting each of the communities will be shared with key community stakeholders to inform the development and implementation of action plans to address sexual violence against women and girls. Advisory committees will be established for each community, as well as a project-wide committee to ensure cross-sectoral sharing of identified strategies and effective methods to implement policy and procedural changes to prevent violence.
